Thank you God, for the rain.
Thank you. I mean it.
I think.
Yes, we’ve been praying for rain.
But, did we really mean it? Did we really mean it this much?
Probably not this much.
I prefer my blessings meted out, lukewarm, just right.
Minimal hyperboles, measurements, or timelapse models, and certainly without safety warnings.
Do answered prayers even come with safety warnings?
When does a blessing cross over into a…
What’s the opposite of a blessing?
Burden? Affliction? Curse?
I don’t so much like running as I like having run
I don’t so much enjoy a rainy day as I enjoy the day after the rain
Like Tim Gibbs Zehnder and Tom Zehnder’s song Rain Shine:
nothing beats this scene
just fresh from the rain…
did you see the sun today?
after the never ending rain has ended
can you come on out to play…
did you get the sense today
that we and all creation laughed together?
Yes, after the rain is better.
It’s easier to be grateful when it’s over
We certainly need the rain, all of LA admits
But this?
Sometimes a gentle sprinkle would be nice
Maybe this time, God, you could go easy on us a bit?
We’ve had a tough couple of weeks/months/years
Is it too much to ask for a little break?
What does a break even look like?
How would we recognize a reprieve granted? Mercy given?
How do we know we’ve been spared?
Jokes about building an ark abound
But Noah isn’t really too far off right about now
Is this rain an affliction or a blessing?
Destruction or salvation?
Or is it just rain – the product of atmospheric pressure systems?
And we then see God’s hand in the aftermath
the gleaming streets, the wildflowers, the olive branch our world so desperately needs
which is the sign that there’s still life
That there’s a safe place to land
And we are on our way home
