This week, we have a little bit of everything: reflection, updates, and milestones.
What’s helping me daydream?
For my daydreaming practice, I need to put myself in the way of daydreaming. It won’t just happen to me overnight. So what’s helping me daydream this week?
+ Rain
There’s nothing like the sound of rain coming down to take me away from whatever I’m working on and drift my attention out my window.
+Sunshine
Yes, this too. We’ve had so much rain recently (rare for SoCal) that on a sunny day, I find myself gazing out my window at the sky. Window-gazing has to be by far my favorite way to daydream.
+Humming to myself
Singing a song while living in an imaginary world should not be just for kids. I get to hum to myself, too. I love getting lost in a melody and not even knowing how long I’ve been singing it.
+Talking less
Ok, this one hasn’t really been by choice. I lost my voice and am doing a lot more listening as a result. Which is great – I’m a big fan of listening. And, I hadn’t really realized how much something like this would help me daydream more.
+Walks
Whether a brisk pace or a stroll, there’s nothing like a walk to let my mind wander and process. I leave my headphones at home and look up at the leaves, greet fellow strollers, and – why not? – smell the flowers when I get the chance.
You’ll never guess why I’m going on so many walks!
Yes, we have a new dog. Things aren’t official yet (we’re on a one week trial) but I’m 99% sure she’ll stay with us. In the meantime, walking her has been a great opportunity to daydream. And great accountability – because if she hasn’t been walked enough, she will let us know.
She’s a rescue and has a pretty hard story having been rescued from Skid Row. She’s not skittish or scared, but she’s had a rough start to life. My kids especially are attuned to her and just want to play and cuddle with her.
And now I have a running buddy! Hope she likes half marathons.

The Nature of the Beast by Louise Penny
I hope your voice comes back soon (despite the opportunity for more listening) Also, once that adorable dog is officially part of the fam, you have to share her name!
