Oooh what a great Lenten practice! And I love Tricia Hersey too, I just bought her Rest Deck recently and will sometimes pull a card from it to lead a devotion at work or with my spiritual directees.
I’ve been reading/hearing more about how our brains are not wired to function with all the input from our modern world, and without the quiet space of doing nothing, our imagination is diminishing. I shall join you in your daily daydreaming!
Oh I love this so much! It pairs really well with Christine Valters Painters' new book _A Different Kind of Fast_ which I picked up for Lent. I might tuck this away though and extend it into the Easter Season. There is resurrection in daydreaming!
At the risk of putting this in a very non-Hersey way: I’m wondering what specific practices or habits I need to put into place in order to “operationalize” this. One step was to delete a whole bunch of podcasts that are enjoyable but end up cluttering my brain.
First things that come to my mind: turning off music/podcasts in the car, picking a place to sit where I'll day dream (wish I had a porch!), setting a timer for myself to either walk around the block without my phone or walk over to the window for a few minutes.
Ok, I've decided driving doesn't count because I do still need to, ya know, focus. So instead I'm going to intentionally arrive early when I'm out and about, and instead of answering emails in my car, I'll stare off at the sky or rest my eyes for a minute or two.

And congrats on a year - that is a feat!

Amen to this 🙏
This really spoke to me… I think I’ll follow suit. Maybe we can be accountability buddies ☺️
Yes! And I will certainly need accountability on this one.

Highly recommend Susan Cain’s A Quiet Life in Seven Steps, an Audible original. You will vibe with it during this daydreaming adventure!

And also, day dreaming connects me to the little one sitting on the stoop looking into the sky waiting for me.
Yes, that little one on the steps is calling! I love that image so much
I love it! Great Lenten practice: day dreaming! I start today 😇
